The transportation sector accounts for approximately 20% of the Kingdom's total primary energy consumption. In collaboration with relevant authorities, SEEC has implemented several initiatives aimed at improving fuel economy in imported light vehicles, while also monitoring the progress of the Saudi Arabia Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) objectives. Efforts in the land transport sector focus on enhancing the energy efficiency of both light duty vehicles (LDVs) and heavy duty vehicles (HDVs), as well as improving the energy efficiency of vehicle tires.
Saudi Corporate Average Fuel Economy (Saudi CAFE)
This initiative aims to improve the fuel efficiency of newly imported light duty vehicles, by applying the Saudi CAFE standards and periodically updating targets for all manufacturers, with the goal of enhancing the fuel efficiency of the imported vehicle fleet.
Aerodynamic Devices Standard for Heavy Duty Vehicles
This standard defines the technical requirements that enhance the aerodynamics of heavy duty vehicles, helping to improve fuel efficiency. This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to enhance fuel efficiency in the Kingdom’s heavy duty vehicle fleet by reducing fuel consumption through improved vehicle design.
Energy Efficiency Label for Vehicles and Tires
This initiative aims to raise consumer awareness about the importance of selecting fuel-efficient vehicles and tires when purchasing from the local market. It achieves this by providing an energy efficiency label displayed on the vehicle or tire. The label presents fuel consumption levels in a simplified format, enabling consumers to make more informed purchasing decisions.
Eco-Driving Initiative
This initiative aims to raise awareness of Fuel efficient driving techniques in the Kingdom by promoting optimal driving practices. The efforts focus on improving energy efficiency of both light and heavy duty vehicles, reducing fuel consumption, and enhancing energy use in the land transport sector.
