The SEEC seeks to improve the efficiency of energy consumption and the feedstock utilization in the industrial sector, which consumes about 45% of the total primary energy consumed in the Kingdom. From this standpoint, efforts and initiatives have been initiated in the high intensive industries by developing the necessary policies, regulations and procedures in full cooperation and coordination with the relevant authorities and by benefiting from international expertise in this field. In terms of feedstock utilization efficiency, the scope of work focuses on the primary feedstocks, which were identified to include hydrocarbon cracking, ammonia, methanol, propane dehydrogenation (PDH), isobutylene, and benzene-toluene-xylene (BTX).
The current scope of work covers all existing and new plants falling within the Petrochemical, Cement, Steel and Aluminum sectors that are under the feasibility study, design, implementation phase, and commercial operation.
Energy Efficiency Framework Requirements In The Industrial Sectors , for the 1st Cycle 2014-2019
This initiative aims to monitor and ensure that consumption-intensified industrial companies meet the specified energy efficiency requirements and targets during the 1st cycle, by collecting and analyzing the energy intensity data annually, verifying its accuracy, and issuing related reports. It also includes following up the implementation of energy efficiency improvement plans to achieve the required targets.
Energy Efficiency and Feedstock Utilization Efficiency Framework Requirements In The Industrial Sectors, for the 2nd Cycle 2020-2025
This initiative concludes the efforts made in the 1st cycle, with updating the framework to include energy efficiency and feedstock utilization requirements for the 2nd cycle, as the energy intensity and feedstock utilization data are collected annually, verified, and relevant reports issued. It also includes following up the implementation of improvement plans to achieve the required targets during this cycle.
Energy Management Program
This program aims to promote a culture of energy efficiency management in addition to enable for the energy management system implementation ( ISO 50001 or equivalent) across various industrial sectors in the Kingdom. This includes providing guidance manuals and training tools that help various facilities to understand the energy management system and its importance and apply it in accordance with best practices in this field.
